There is nothing like the sense of freedom that comes from being out on the open seas, with the fresh salty sea breeze blowing in your face. With seventy percent of the earth’s surface being water, there are plenty of great places to go sailing, from the more common destinations to some gorgeous hidden gems. OROGOLD Cosmetics reviews the best places to go sailing.

Australia
The Whitsunday Islands, just off the Queensland coast in Australia, are made up of 74 picture-perfect flawless islands. The area, a half-drowned mountain range, is part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, one of the seven wonders of the world, ensuring that you will see areas of outstanding beauty. In addition to the colorful coral gardens, you will also be able to marvel at the sea turtles and the huge array of colorful fish. Diving and snorkelling straight off your boat is incomparable to anywhere else in the world, and it is a great destination for both novices as well as the more experienced. You can also stop off at some of the islands to go bushwalking, enjoy beach barbecues and fully explore the underwater wonderland.

Greece
Located on the Mediterranean, it would seem as though Greece has it all, with great weather conditions, countless islands and plenty of marinas. Athens, the capital of the country, is well worth a visit, and is a great starting point for your sailing trip. From Athens, you can sail to the Cyclades Islands, comprised of 220 islands in the Aegean Sea. The summer season is when the winds are the strongest here, so less experienced sailors are advised to book their trip slightly off season. Apart from the Cyclades, the Ionian Isles, the Dodecanese, and the islands of the Saronic Gulf are also great places to go sailing, with dramatic gorges and beautiful scenery.

Spain
With two of the longest coastlines in Europe, Spain is a popular destination for people who want to go sailing. Sailing south from the Costa Brava gives you the opportunity to pass by some ancient Roman ruins, and you also have the option of stopping off at Valencia and exploring the Old Town and the Turia Gardens. If you enjoy mingling with tourists on the beach, then sailing down to the Costa Blanca would be ideal for you. The Costa de la Luz is on the Southern coast of Spain, and offers pristine white sand beaches, fishing villages and pine woods. There are also plenty of Spanish islands that you can sail to, from Majorca to Ibiza, all of which have been attracting sailing enthusiasts for years.

If you are already well-accustomed to the art of sailing, some of the lesser-known islands of Australia, Spain and Greece would be ideal for you. For those of you who are new to sailing, there are many sailing tour operators who can organize a customized sailing tour package for you, ensuring that your first time out on the sea will definitely not be your last.
