Outdoor Adventures to Enjoy in Spain

//Outdoor Adventures to Enjoy in Spain

Spain is home to some stunning landscapes, and it only makes sense to make the most of this when visiting the country. From the only zip line in the world that crosses borders to the only desert in Europe, these are some unique outdoor adventures that only Spain can offer.

Desierto de Tabernas
The only true semi-arid desert in all of Europe, the Tabernas Desert may be largely unknown to the rest of the world, but you have likely seen it featured in many Hollywood movies. From Clint Eastwood westerns to Indiana Jones, the desert has been showcased in a wide range of movies, leading to the development of the Mini-Hollywood area, where you will find a wide range of American Wild West attractions. In addition to the Hollywood-related attractions, the desert ravines and canyons are home to a wide range of flora and fauna, from the famous Trumpeter finch to the beautiful Limonium flower.

El Diablo Restaurante
While there are many Spanish restaurants that offer outdoor dining, El Diablo Restaurante is the only one that does this on an active volcano. Located in Lanzarote’s Parque Nacional de Timanfaya, giving you a chance to see this incredible national park too, the restaurant cooks their food using geothermal heat from the Fire Mountains, with a cast-iron grill placed over a large hole in the ground. While the views from the restaurant are spectacular throughout the day, the best time to visit is at sunset, when the golden light casts dreamy shadows over the sandy volcanoes.

Caminito del Ray

Caminito del Ray
Located in the small village of El Chorro, Malaga, the Caminito del Ray is a 100 metre high, one metre wide, pathway that runs above the Gaitanes Gorge, and is considered to be the most dangerous hike in the world. The perilous trail winds its way around steep limestone cliffs, with vertical canyon walls that feel as though they will crumble to pieces at any moment. The entire trail stretches out for 3 kilometres, with a cable running the length of it to enable hikers to clip themselves on with a harness. While the views may be scenic, this is a walk that only experienced hikers should attempt, as there are numerous sections that are extremely challenging.

Limite Zero
Limite Zero is the only zip line in the world that crosses borders, taking thrill-seekers on a unique journey from Spain to Portugal. The line stretches out for 720 metres, crossing a river, and a time zone, at speeds of up to 80 kilometres an hour. Once in Portugal, there is then a five minute walk before participants arrive at a ferry that will take them back to Spain. The entire experience takes just 40 minutes, and definitely guarantees an unforgettable adventure.

Spain boasts some truly unique attractions, guaranteeing an experience that you will not find elsewhere. From the zip line that takes you into another country to the most dangerous hiking trail in the world, all of these outdoor adventures enable you to explore some of the diverse natural beauty that this country is home to.
