When it comes to seeking out child-friendly activities, it is always an added bonus if they are enjoyable for the adults too. From the Houston Zoo to the Children’s Museum, these are some spots that your kids are bound to love, and that you will have fun at too.
Children’s Museum of Houston
With 90,000 square feet of interactive exhibits relating to everything from science and technology to human development and the arts, it would be hard to find a child that did not enjoy themselves at the Children’s Museum of Houston. Each of the exhibits here allow kids to really get involved, whether this may be putting together their own television news reports, creating their very own gadgets or running their own city. Not only are these exhibits fun for the entire family, but they are also extremely educational for the children who take part in them. If you have younger kids with you, the museum has an area called Tot Spot, which offers up stimulating activities for babies and toddlers.
Houston Zoo
Named by Parents Magazine as one of the Top 10 Zoos in the Nation, Houston Zoo stands out from its competition due to the way in which they encourage visitors to really get up close and personal with the animals through their Natural Encounters program. In addition to the regular zoo, there is also a special Children’s Zoo that features a number of petting pens, allowing children to feel and touch certain animals in addition to seeing them, guaranteeing a memorable experience.
SplashTown
The largest and most diverse water park in Houston, SplashTown is located about 20 minutes from Downtown Houston, and offers up over 40 acres of water-based fun. From the newest thrill ride in the park, the Stingray Racer, which will no doubt have your heart pumping, to the gently cascading Guadalupe Adventure, otherwise known as the lazy river, there are rides here that will appeal to just about every age group. There are also several dining options on-site, making it extremely convenient to spend the entire day here.
Space Center Houston
While many of the exhibits at the Space Center Houston may be designed for adults, the Kids Space Place is aimed at children of all ages, who all share the passion of wanting to learn more about space. From building their own rocket to taking control of a space station, the activities available here will not only teach your children about the basic concepts of space, but will also show them how these fun activities that they are doing are relatable to the lives of astronauts today. If you have older children with you, they may be interested in the Level Nine Tour available at the Space Center Houston, as this gives you a real behind-the-scenes peek into NASA, but is only open to those over the age of 14.
Houston is packed with child-friendly activities, and, with such a huge diversity of them, you will no doubt be able to find quite a few that appeal to the specific interests of your own children. Whether this may be space travel or animal conservation, these spots are not only plenty of fun, but also extremely educational.
