Many would agree that light shows are one of the highlights of the holiday season, and, as each year progresses, these light shows are really being elevated to a whole new level. From Texas to New York, these are the must-see holiday light shows this holiday season.

Fred Loya Christmas Light Show, Texas
The Fred Loya Christmas Light Show in El Paso, Texas, is held several times a night on weekends, with crowds of up to 3000 gathering for the spectacle. This show takes over 800 hours to assemble, and needs at least 40 volunteers, as there are over half a million lights that need to be installed. These lights are choreographed to holiday music, and, once the show is done, hot chocolate and cookies are served up from one of the other houses on the estate.

Christmas in Color, Utah
The largest drive-through holiday light show in the state, Christmas in Color is held each year in Provo and Kearns, and features over one million sparkling lights. With glittering tunnels, extravagant archways, and twinkling lights that dance and change color to the music, this light show stretches out for a mile, and really does make you feel as though you are driving through an extraordinary winter wonderland.

Candy Cane Lane, California
Candy Cane Lane in Los Angeles has been a much-loved Californian Christmas tradition since 1952. This light show is created by a small group of homeowners that live within the eight square block area around Lubao and Oxnard Streets, and, every year, this part of the city becomes blanketed in sparkling lights for the entire month of December.

ERDAJT Christmas Light Display, New York
The ERDAJT Christmas Light Display is held each year in New York’s LaGrangeville, and has even earned itself a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the most lights on a residential property. When the show began in 1995, it featured a modest 600 lights, but has now grown to include over 600,000 different lights, from strobes to “leaping trees”. The lights are synchronized with Christmas songs and other popular hits, from artists such as Coldplay and Rihanna, and the schedule on their website will tell you more about the upcoming songs if you want to plan a visit around your favorite tunes.

Delaney Christmas Light Show, Tennessee
Located in Hillsboro, about 70 miles south of Nashville, the Delaney Christmas Light Show was first put together with the intention of being a gift to the community, and it still is to this day. The show features over 80,000 lights that are synchronized to music, which will be played on specific radio channels that passer-bys can tune into to listen to while they drive by.

While the majority of these holiday light shows are free to enjoy, do keep in mind that they do take a considerable amount of time, effort and money to create and run. While the light show organizer’s are not looking for anything in return, they do accept donations that they then pass on to local charities, who then do their best to ensure that everybody can enjoy a sparkling Christmas.
