//LOCATION SPOTLIGHT: Mexico City by OROGOLD – ORO GOLD Reviews

You would be surprised if we told you that the capital of Mexico is the nation’s best kept secret, but this wouldn’t be far from the truth. Countless travelers to Mexico have simply flocked to the coasts using Mexico City as a simple stopover to catch their connecting flights. Oh, if only they had an idea of what they have missed!

It is easy to be intimidated by the size of Mexico City (it is considered to be one of the most densely populated metropolises in the world). The crazy rumors that fly about and its reputation of being chaotic and unsafe don’t help in encouraging tourism. But, we think that these are just rumors that are spread by the locals to prevent international travelers from discovering this gem of a city.

Located at a height of 2,400 meters above sea level and hosting a population of more than 20 million people, Mexico City is a city like no other. It does have its share of problems, like pollution; but the Mexican capital is nowhere close to being as intimidating as most people find it to be. In fact, it is considered to be one of the best cities in the region for all those looking for things like world famous museums, beautiful restaurants, historical wonders, exotic nightlife, world class shopping, a rich history and a beautiful culture.

What was once famous as the great Aztec City of Tenochtitlan is now known as Mexico City. The entire city was initially created in the Valley of Mexico right over the Lake Texcoco. The Aztecs had managed to build an entire network of canals to navigate through the city. However, the Spanish arrived in the year 1519 and replaced most of the Aztec structures with modern roads and buildings. Despite these demolitions, many of the original Aztec creations survived. This is why areas like Southern Xochimilco and the Teotihuacán archaeological site attract history buffs to Mexico City even today.

The entire city radiates out of its main square, the main lifeline of this modern day capital. To the immediate west of the Zocalo (the main square) is the Alameda garden, the main commercial area in Mexico city. Beyond the gardens lie the glamourous Zona Rosa and the hip Condesa areas. But, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Mexico City consists of more than 300 neighborhoods and many of these neighborhoods are famous for offering something entirely unique to the travelers. Some of the most popular neighborhoods in the city include Zona Rosa, Coyoacan, Roma, San Angel and Condesa. These beautiful neighborhoods are home to all sorts of parks, markets, plazas, cafes, shops and restaurants. Polanco is the best area in Mexico City for those looking for a trendy nightlife.
