Sydney’s Famous Coastal Trail

//Sydney’s Famous Coastal Trail

While Sydney may be home to several Sydney coastal walks, the Bondi to Coogee Walk, which travels along the cliff tops, is the most popular. With everything from scenic beaches to Aboriginal rock carvings, this two-hour walk will teach you so much about Sydney’s history, culture, and natural beauty.

The Six Sections of the Trail
The Bondi to Coogee coastal trail features six main sections, each of these offer quite the unique experience. The first section is Bondi to Tamarama, and the highlight here is the annual Sculpture by the Sea exhibition, which turns the seaside into an outdoor art gallery. Next up is the Tamarama to Bronte section, which is a leisurely, even stroll, making it one of the easiest parts of the whole walk. Following on from this is the Bronte to Clovelly section, which includes a cliff top boardwalk that stretches out for over 500 meters, offering stunning views of the waves below. After this is the Clovelly to Coogee walk, which is quite a hilly section but offers panoramic views of the surrounding bays.

Beaches
The many beaches that you will find along the Bondi to Coogee coastal trail are considered to be some of the best in Sydney. Bondi Beach is the most famous, and is an iconic part of Sydney’s surf culture, making it extremely popular with both locals and tourists. Bronte Beach is also famous for its surf, as well as its large rock pool, while the calmer waters of Clovelly Beach makes it ideal for swimmers. For those who want to stop off at a beach for a bite to eat, wait until you reach Coogee Beach, as you will find a large number of local cafés that serve up fresh and tasty seasonal dishes.

Things to Do Along the Way
With a walk such as the Bondi to Coogee coastal trail, the journey itself is just as important as the destination, and to make the most of your journey, there are plenty of extra activities that you can indulge in. Of course, surfing is the quintessential Australian sport, and for those of you who have not yet given it a go, there are many lessons to be found at the beaches mentioned above. Stand up paddle boarding is also popular, especially around Gordon’s Bay, while those who want to explore the area’s marine life will appreciate the underwater nature trail in the area, complete with diving spots. Skateboarding enthusiasts will delight at the two skate bowls to be found along the walk, with one at Bondi Beach and one at Maroubra Beach, both of which offer a scenic beach backdrop.

Sydney is home to some extraordinary sections of coastline, but the stretch between Bondi and Coogee has to be one of its most impressive features. From iconic beaches to public art, this is a trail that every visitor to Sydney should definitely explore. If you do not feel up to doing the entire walk, there are plenty of transport links in the area that will enable you to join the trail at each of its different sections.
